Goal: run another half marathon before the end of 2026.

AI Builders
Useful builds and ideas from people building in public with AI.
Newest first. Starting with James Raybould; more builders will follow. Dates marked ~ are approximate, based on LinkedIn's relative ages checked 5 Oct 2026.

Start with the easiest repeated chore
Sharing Scott Belsky's piece, James suggests asking the assistant itself where to start. Email triage or basic research are easy first uses; don't overthink the entry point.
Why it matters: pick one repeated chore before designing the whole assistant.

From text digests to voice-to-voice
His assistant now talks back. He tests and shapes the experience live, filing bugs and ideas mid-conversation for a builder agent. He has not yet seen a fix completed during the same conversation. He reports around 3-second latency and switches between Claude, Gemini and DeepSeek.
Why it matters: voice-first assistants let people shape the experience while using it.

A team of assistants, not one tool
James reports 4,952 texts with Instinct, 1,000+ with his own Q and 500+ with Muse over a month. The assistants know about each other, and he says some of the best work happens when several are involved.
Why it matters: give each assistant a clear role and let them work together.
Self-reported activity, not a productivity benchmark. He explicitly says feeling productive is not the same as being productive.

Apps become plumbing
He expects to visit 10-12 apps instead of 30 while still using the services behind all 30. Assistants would make more of the trips through each app's front door for him.
Why it matters: build assistants around tool access, not more screens.

Voice mode with interruption and no dead air
James says Q spans his messages, email, Slack, calendar, tasks, notes, transcripts and workout data. He reports 55 tools and 66,000 lines of code he did not write or review. His voice v1 works over car Bluetooth, can be interrupted mid-answer and says "one sec" when slow.
Why it matters: interruption and a short filler phrase are concrete features to consider for a voice v1.
His own report; voice mode is not yet fully ready for prime time.

Keeping AI assistants swappable
He keeps code in GitHub, hosting on Vercel, data in Turso and Supabase, notes in Notion and email/calendar/docs in Google. Any AI assistant can connect to those same layers without owning them.
Why it matters: keep assistant tools and data independent of the model.

The staff of a minor royal
Instinct, Muse and his own Q, built with Claude Code, watch things he never had time to track: camp signups, books, music, local updates and race results.
Why it matters: give each watch a clear signal so useful changes arrive without another manual check.
